Whilst many Bryan Adams songs have become undeniable
parts of rock history, this is undoubtedly the artist’s
quintessential piece. A timeless classic on love and
relationships ‘Summer of 69’ is about looking back on the
summertime and making love. According to Bryan, 'the '69 was
a metaphor for making love, not about the year' though. The
chiming, swirling guitar hook which plays after the song’s
chorus is a masterstroke – somehow capturing the feeling of
looking back into the past, as if caught in the warm and hazy
vortex of time.
‘Summer of 69’
From: Reckless (1984)
The Canadian singer Bryan Adams was one of the most
successful artists of the 1980s, and his sales are estimated at
100 million worldwide. He became the king of the 1990s power
ballad with hits like "Heaven", "Run To You", "Please Forgive
Me", "Everything I Do", and "Summer of 69", among others.
Bryan is best known for his guitar-led rock music and his big,
throaty vocals. While most of his music is pure rock, he has
dabbled with subgenres like soft rock, hard rock, pop rock, and
even country.
